4th Grade Above the Line.... 4th Graders Choose Kind
As a 4th grade team we have focused our year around The R Factor. In our morning "Roar" and in each classroom we talk about teamwork, working above the line, being kind, learning good student skills and what it means to be present. As a behavior plan we have started a classroom money system. Students will have the opportunity each 12 weeks to earn money to attend a reward movie. If a student does not attend the movie they will work with a teacher in a small group setting. Each 12 week trimester everyone starts with a fresh start.
Each week students will track their money using a money sheet. They will receive money for "Above the Line" behavior, reading and math goals (optional), classroom job and various bonuses and deductions. They will deposit their weekly pay once a week into an electronic banking account here at school.
Weekly Money Sheet
"Above the Line":
Each classroom has a magnetic board representing "Above the Line" and "Below the Line" behavior. Students start the day by placing their name "above the line" as a way to remember our 4th grade goals. Throughout the day students may need to move their magnet "below the line" based on their behavior choices. As the day continues, should they make "above the line" choices, they will have the opportunity to move back "above the line".
Reading Goal:
Each 12 week trimester, your student will bring home a paper where they will set an "at home" reading goal. This is optional and an individual goal based on your student and what works best for your family. This is not recorded as homework. Each student has a chapter book assigned by me that I would love them to read at home and school. However, their at home reading may be any reading they find enjoyable. Thanks, Mrs. Dixon
Math Goal:
Though students do not have required math homework at this time, I believe extra practice will benefit each and every student. We have discussed various ways that your child can work on math at home. Students will be paid weekly if they reach a goal of 75 minutes of math practice at home. In order for your child to receive his/her pay, the number of minutes practiced, along with a parent signature will be required. Thank you, Ms. Putrino
